The Skill Select draw results have been released by the Department of Home Affairs for the month of July. The invitation rounds were held for the Skilled Independent visa (sub – class 189) and Skilled Regional visa (sub – class 489). The DOHA conducts the Skill Select rounds of invitations each month in order to invite the most skilled, in demand professionals to Australia. These potential migrants are invited based on their skills, education, English language skills and age. The invitation rounds are expected on the 11th of each month but dates are subject to change. The number of invites in each round of course depends on applications being processed by the department and vary on month to month basis. Also Skill Select first allocates available places to Skilled – Independent visas (subclass 189) and then the remaining to Skilled – Regional (Provisional) visas (subclass 489). If all places are taken up by subclass 189 visas then there will be no invitations issued for subclass 489 visas in these occupations.
The highest ranked clients by points score are invited to apply for the relevant visa. For clients who have equal points scores, the time at which they reached their points score for that subclass (referred to as the date of effect) determines their order of invitation. Expressions of Interest with earlier dates of effect are invited before later dates.
In this year’s Skill Select draw we witnessed that there has been a great news and finally some ray of light for the accountants. Last draw saw a whopping increase in the cut off score for accountants but this draw has proved to be a sigh of relief for other professions as well. In July’s skill select draw, accountants were invited at 85 cut off. Similarly auditors, company secretaries and corporate treasurers were invited at 85 also. The electronics engineer professionals were invited at a cut off score of 80 and industrial, mechanical and production engineers were invited with those having minimum score of 80. Likewise, other engineering professionals were invited at 80 points while computer network professionals were invited at 80 points also. ICT business and system analysts and software developers were also invited at 80 points simultaneously.
In addition to this, for the main visa category that is the Skilled Independent class visa sub class 189 there were 1000 invitations carried out while the remaining 100 were charted out for the skilled regional (provisional) visa 489 sub – class.
Keeping in view the increased cut off trends many applicants are now resorting to other options including whether looking forward to settle in the regional Australia and gain work experience there but again the hindrance remains the same which is lack of job opportunities there. Or the applicants are looking for ways to boost up their PR scores by appearing in NAATI certifications or opting for a professional year in either of their designated course like Accounting, IT or Engineering.
