Land cruiser v8 is a timeless icon that has an unmatched glory by the top rivals. It is a big-sized luxury SUV with serious off-road capabilities, predicted reliability and loads of standard and optional features.
Land Cruiser Exterior
The new Land Cruiser 2020 has attempted to channel it’s past style. The front of the SUV is quite similar to the 1991 Land Cruiser due to the huge chrome grille and LED headlights. The bodyline is curvy with chrome trimmings.
The tailgate at the rear end bends downwards. Since it is in fact a legendary 4-wheel drive, the height of the car is kept high and short bumpers are added too. Even though the running boards make it convenient for going inside and outside of the SUV, the exterior looks better if they are removed.
Land Cruiser Specification
This four-wheel drive SUV is fueled by a powerful and muscular V-8, 5.7 liter engine which delivers 381 hp and 401 Nm. The engine is mated to a 8-speed automatic transmission which offers strong acceleration. The transmission is programmed to shift up in such a way to conserve fuel.
There are special driving dynamics which improves the performance of the SUV. These are multi-mode traction control system, a trick system and crawl control which allows the car to turn around narrow places. The SUV drives easily on paved roads. However, the old, body-on-frame construction combined with heavy steering may be difficult for some people to get used to. Moreover, it is not easy to navigate the car through narrow streets of city and parking lots.
There are two trims available this year which is a base one and a recent Heritage Edition. The Heritage Edition kicked out the running boards and third row while adding a roof basket, bronze-finished 18-inch wheels and exterior refinements.
The trick suspension contains huge anti-roll bars which force themselves down on the wheels during tough cornering and enhances articulation at low speeds.
Land Cruiser Features
Both trims come with the standard features of a power moonroof, a cooler in the center console, quad-zone automatic climate control, heated back seats, leather upholstery, navigation, USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, active safety gear, a 14-speaker JBL audio system, a wireless charger, cooled and heated front seats and a 9-inch infotainment screen. Heated steering wheel which has a power tilt and telescopic adjustments is also found. The Apple and Android connectivity is missing.
The solid rear axle and a ladder frame assist the car in towing, giving the car a soft ride and enhance the off-road ability. A Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System which is abbreviated as KDSS aids in adjusting the stabilizer bars and suspension parts to ensure that the ride is smooth and the car absorbs shocks and bumps.
Land Cruiser Interior
The Cruiser’s cabin is spacious and comfortable with full leather upholstery. A total of 8 people can be seated across all the three rows. Whereas the Heritage Edition has only 2 rows which can seat a total of 5 passengers. Out of the two colors of brown hue and black, brown looks more appealing because the black leather combined with a black headliner makes the spacious interior look small. A big 9-inch bright touchscreen display is spread over the dashboard.
The driver and passengers have adjustable seats. The first and second row have enough space and a good view of the road ahead unlike the third row. The seats belonging to the second row can slide and recline to offer legroom and convenience. The excellent visibility along with 10-way power-adjustments makes it easy to go on long trips.
The third row(standard in the base 2020 New Land Cruiser) has an optional rear-seat entertainment system which has individual screens, keeping the people engaged. The cargo space behind the last row provides 16 cubic feet when the row is upright, 43 cubic feet when the third row is stowed upright and 82 cubic feet when the second row is folded. The Heritage Edition offers 5 cubic feet more space in this area. The cargo space can be accessed by a split tailgate but the third row seats are not easily removable.
Overall, the surfaces of the interior are soft due to the leather upholstery and wooden trimmings.
Land Cruiser Safety Gear
The Land Cruiser is adept at avoiding collisions and keeping a safe distance from other vehicles in a traffic jam. The standard safety features include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking which detects pedestrians, adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning. The Passive Crash Gear contains a total of 10 airbags, LED headlights and stability and traction control.
This off-roader beast should definitely be on your list if you’re up for some sport because not many cars are as competent as this Cruiser.
