The laptop screen:
Laptop Screens Replacement, like the keyboard, is the most vulnerable component of the device. It is quite possible to replace a failed display if you choose the right matrix and follow the instructions for installing it. Let’s look at how to replace the screen with your own hands.
How do I choose a new matrix for my laptop?
Careless operation of home devices often leads to damage to the device’s screen. The cracks that appear distort the image on the monitor: streaks, spots in the form of blots and smudges, blurring, flickering dots, rainbow streaks, Laptop Screens Replacement, etc. appear.
When such artifacts appear, the only way to get rid of them is to replace the matrix.
Matrix with mechanical damage can not be repaired
The process of Laptop Screen Replacement itself is simple and takes from 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the brand of laptop. It is much more difficult to find a new matrix to replace the damaged one.
Ideal Option:
The ideal option is to install a “native” display. To find out the model of the matrix on your laptop, you can use the technical documentation for the device, information on the manufacturer’s website, or data on the back of the display. In the latter case, you will have to disassemble the top panel of the device.
After learning the matrix model (for example, NT156WHM-N32 for Lenovo laptop), you can start searching for it. You can purchase the display at a service center, online store, or specialized computer market.
Exact Same Model:
If you couldn’t find the exact same model, you’ll have to choose a compatible one, paying attention to the following parameters::
- matrix type (TN, IPS, MVA, PLS);
- diagonal size (13.3, 14, 15.6, 17.3 inches);
- display resolution (1024×600, 1366×768, 1600×900, 1920 x 1080 px);
- illumination method (lamp or LED);
- surface finish (matt or glossy);
- location of the connection connector (left or right);
- firmware version.
On the reverse side of the matrix, its part number is indicated. For example, for this display, it looks like this: LM200WD1
Instructions for replacing the screen:
On most laptops, with a few exceptions, the matrix changes according to the same principle. First of all, you need to prepare a workplace and the necessary tools (screwdrivers, tape, a plastic spatula that can be replaced with a guitar pick or a credit card),
As well as study the disassembly scheme of your laptop model using text instructions or videos on the Internet. After that, you can start replacing the screen.
All the work on replacing the laptop screen can be divided into three main stages::
Three Main Stages:
- Disconnect the device from the power supply and remove the battery.
- Dismantling the damaged matrix.
- Installing a new display.
Let’s take a closer look at each step.
Power outage:
De-energizing the device is a mandatory process since it prevents damage to laptop components (cable contacts, motherboard, video card) in the event of a short circuit. In devices with a removable battery, the battery is removed very simply:
just slide the latch on the bottom of the case to the side and remove the battery from the special compartment. In some models, two latches are responsible for opening the battery compartment.
To remove the battery, first, slide the locking latch under the battery compartment to the side
In devices with a built-in battery, this step will take a little longer, because to disconnect the battery, you will need to unscrew the back cover of the laptop and disconnect the power cable.
However, there are some models in which you have to use a completely different approach to access the battery:
Remove the keyboard
Remove the keyboard instead of the back panel. In both cases, it is not difficult to detect the power connector — just inspect the battery around the perimeter. Most often, a loop with several thin wires is located in one of the corners.

Removing a damaged matrix:
This step can be divided into two stages::
- Detach the outer frame, which is secured around the display with bolts and latches. Depending on the laptop model, the mounting bolts can be located in all corners of the upper cover or only in the lower ones. In addition, they can be hidden from view by rubber plugs.
- Having released the frame from the bolts, you should proceed to the disclosure of miniature latches located around the perimeter. To do this, one of the edges of the frame is picked up with a plastic spatula
- And lifted slightly up to a slight click.
- These movements should open all the latches, gradually moving clockwise or counterclockwise.
Damaged matrix:
- Carefully prying the outer frame of the matrix with a plastic spatula, we release it from the latches
- Extracting the matrix. It, like the frame, is usually fixed with bolts, so the goal of this step is to unscrew all the visible fasteners that hold the display. In most laptops, the matrix is fixed with only four corner bolts,
- but there are also models where the screen is framed by additional metal holders on the sides with eight bolts. When all the fasteners are removed, tilt the matrix towards the keyboard and disconnect the cable connected to the motherboard or video card on the backside.
The matrix loop is most often located on the lower part of the reverse side of the display
Setting a new screen:
All actions to connect a new matrix should be performed in reverse order:
- replace the display with the old one;
- connect the cable and secure it with a new tape;
- tighten all the bolts in place, first on the die itself, then on the outer frame;
- insert the battery;
- start the laptop to check the matrix’s health.
In the last step, you can change the sequence slightly to perform a preliminary check of the matrix. To do this, after installing and bolting the new screen, connecting the cable,
Insert the Battery:
insert the battery, and start the laptop. If the monitor displays a clear image without artifacts, you can continue assembling: install the outer frame of the matrix in place, tighten all the bolts, and close the outer ones with plugs.
Brands:
as Asus, HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, you can increasingly find laptops with a built-in battery, respectively, the disassembly of such laptops becomes more complicated
MacBook Air brands:
you have to unwind either the back panel or the keyboard. However, the most complex design is provided by devices of the Macbook Air brands, so it is better to entrust any repair of these devices to professionals.
In addition, the cost of screens for Apple laptops is the highest, so not every user will risk working with an expensive matrix on their own.
Laptop screen:
As you can see, replacing the laptop screen is not such a difficult process. With proper care, accuracy and patience, you can replace the display at home, saving time and money.
The main thing is to choose the right matrix to replace the damaged one and study the process of disassembling your device.
