If you are like many people, you toss your plastics and glass into the recycling bin every couple days. There are, however, many other ways you can recycle. Read on for some suggestions.
Paper and Ink
If you don’t already buy recycled paper for your printer, consider doing so. Then be sure to print on both sides of each sheet as much as possible. Also, buy ink or toner cartridges that are remanufactured, or learn how to refill your own cartridges and use them multiple times. When you’re finished with your cartridges, recycle them through mail-in programs from manufacturers or drop-off programs at office supply stores.
Appliances
You might not realize that many of your worn-out, broken appliances may be recyclable. Refrigerator recycling Sussex County NJ, for instance, is definitely a possibility. Research programs in your community that promote appliance recycling, and take advantage of them so that your appliances don’t end up in the landfill.
Electronics
Electronics, too, can and should be recycled. Many community recycling centers provide drop-off services for electronic items like computers, monitors, cell phones and televisions. Some stores also provide recycling programs for such items. If the item still works, consider wiping it clean, resetting it to its factory default and donating it to charity.
Furniture
Don’t just throw out your old furniture. It, too, can be recycled at many community recycling centers. Better yet, though, you can repurpose and reuse old furniture in many creative ways. An old headboard and footboard from a bed, for instance, can be transformed into a cozy bench. An outdated armoire might become a useful pantry. A plain dresser could end up a kitchen island or even a chair and ottoman set. The possibilities are endless. With some time and creativity, you can keep your old furniture out of the landfill and give it new life in your home.
Indeed with a little effort, you can make a major contribution to the health of the environment by expanding your recycling in new directions.
